While there have already been some great films already released in 2019, there are still some great movies to look forward to this year as well as in 2020. Here are five movies that I am looking forward to in 2019 and 2020.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
While Star Wars: The Last Jedi evoked a polarizing response from audiences, there is still belief that The Rise of Skywalker will produce the thrilling and satisfying conclusion that Star Wars fans like me are hoping for. I am personally excited to see where this movie will take Rey and Kylo Ren. The had the best character arcs in “The Last Jedi” for me, and I am curious to see where they go next. I hope that “The Rise of Skywalker” presents a compelling journey for all of our new characters while still paying homage to our beloved franchise. Let’s hope this movie will be a rewarding conclusion for the Star Wars franchise.
Frozen II (2019)
As someone who loved Frozen, I was really excited to hear that Disney was making a sequel. After seeing the trailer, I am most looking forward to seeing how this story will showcase Elsa’s powers in a new light. We might even get to see the origin of her powers as well which is pretty exciting. I hope that in the film we see how Elsa and Anna’s relationship has grown since the last film and how they overcome whatever challenges come their way. I am sure that Disney will not disappoint us and this will be a great sequel.
Onward (2020)
In March, Pixar is releasing its next film, Onward starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland. I am excited about this film because this is Pixar’s first attempt to tell a story about magical creatures, expanding the Pixar universe. I am most looking forward to seeing the storyline of this film. Pixar has a way of pulling you into the story and becoming emotionally invested in the characters in ways you didn’t think you would be. I would like Onward to show us a side of the Pixar universe we haven’t seen as well as impress us with some amazing visuals, as usual.
21 Bridges (2019)
This film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Chadwick Boseman as the main character. I am looking forward to this film mostly because of the directors. I am a huge fan of the Russo brothers’ work going back to Community. I am looking forward to seeing the storyline of this movie unfold. Based on the trailer, it seems like this will be an emotional roller coaster for audiences with an ending that they did not see coming. I hope that this film delivers a compelling story with brilliant performances. Based on the cast and directors of the film, I’d say we have nothing to worry about.
Joker (2019)
As someone who’s a comic book fan, the Joker has always been one of my favorite villains. What was always so interesting about him to me was the fact that we never really knew his true origin. He was just a dangerous guy with an agenda to cause chaos. With this film coming out in late 2019, it seems that we may get some semblance of an origin for the clown prince of crime. Joaquin Phoenix looks like he will deliver an amazing and memorable performance. That is what I am looking forward to the most. Here’s hoping that this film will do this popular villain his due diligence.
Those are just some of the movies in 2019 and 2020 that I’m looking forward to. What films are you looking forward to the most and why?
